After The Tides

Large-scale oil painting from France: 19th-century French School oil on canvas representing a seaweed harvest. the work is signed Huzner (19th-20th century) in the lower right-hand corner and dated 1885. The canvas is smooth with some small textures on the figures and the rocks.

This is a Barbizon School seascape echoing marine scenes painted by Charles-François Daubigny (1817-1878) during the transition between Romantic and Impressionist movements. The contemplation research done here in this painting is perfectly representative of the Barbizon School, as is the metallic sky illuminating this coastal scene. The Barbizon painters are marked by the drive to reveal the authenticity of the peasant existence and the beauty of the nature around them.

About the artist: Huzner was a French painter specializing in marine paintings and coastal landscapes. He was most active at the end of the 19th century.
