Contemplation

Large scale oil painting from Europe: Landscape titled "Contemplation" signed by Swedish artist Ryno Frieberg (1920-2018) and dated 1951-52 in the lower left corner.

The canvas has a certain thickness over key areas such as the smoky blue sky where Frieberg's brushstrokes are more dynamic. There is a strong and penetrating natural light that gives a deep relief to the young woman in blue, contemplating the landscape that she herself is a part of.

The raw wood frame is in harmony with the scene and reminiscent of the Swedish style, seeking balance, moderation and a simple link with the nature that surrounds it.

About the artist: Ryno Frieberg (1920-2018) was a Swedish painter born in Falun, Sweden in 1920. Passionate about art, Frieberg studied art at the Pernby School of Painting and The Royal Institute of Art in Stockholm. He produced mainly figurative works, landscapes, portraits and still lifes. All his paintings possess a clean, minimalist Scandinavian style, where modesty becomes poetry. Frieberg passed away at the age of 98 and left behind a large collection of works, many of which are in Swedish museums.

Examples of Frieberg’s work are held in a number public collections including National Museum in Stockholm, Moderna Muséet in Stockholm and Gothenburg Art Museum.
