Amethyst Mountains

Original antique landscape oil painting: Belgian school from the beginning of the 20th-century on carton, mounted on canvas and signed Léon Boverie (1888-1976).

The foreground is marked by rich brushstrokes and generous use of paint, and the thickness of paints are nuanced along the stream to create a smoother gradient of the distances, and the mountains in the background. This layered effect gives a striking perspective to the work, supported by vigorous electric brushstrokes in the foreground. The impressionist approach is strongly felt on the surface of the water, as well as in the shades of purple mauve and hazy amethyst which envelops the mountains.

  • Condition: The canvas is in good condition with a few small material gaps, mainly on the edges. The frame bears marks due to time but still has a nice cachet thanks to its old varnish.
