Romantic Ruins

Fine Art from France: French School oil on canvas with an inscription in the lower right hand corner with the name of a convent (illegible). This smooth canvas has barely any texture in the paint and brushstrokes, but the effect of the artistry is dynamic.
The colors and tone of the painting, with notes of yellow and orange, evoke the feeling of dawn. The ruins of a convent in this convent recall myths of antiquity. There is a beautiful alliance in this work between the rigor of classical lines and the idyllic notions of romantic landscapes. The work resembles the style of Flemish Renaissance painter, Pieter Brueghel (1525-1569) - an unclassifiable artist in the history of art who made the junction between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. We do not know the artist of this work, but suppose he or she was inspired by Brueghel.
