Young man

$1,050.00

Original painting from France: French school of the XIXth century study in oil on canvas attributed to Victor Pierre Ménard (1857-1938).

The canvas surface is smooth with a few thin layers on the model's hair.

A careful work of morphology, by skin tones, reliefs and shadows. But Ménard impresses above all by the intensity of the looks and the accuracy of the emotion he captures. He immortalizes a moment of gravity that says it all through this portrait of a young man who lived in a different era.

About the artist: Victor Pierre Ménard (1857-1938) was born in Nantes in 1857. He trained at the Beaux-Arts in Paris with renowned professors such as Luc-Olivier Merson (1846-1920), Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1834-1912) and Henri-Lucien Doucet (1856-1895). He lives in Paris in the second district and meets Charlotte Morel, one of the first women to be admitted to mixed classes of the Beaux-Arts.

Victor Pierre Ménard regularly exhibits Breton landscapes, portraits and genre scenes at the Salon of French artists from 1894 where he will obtain a mention in 1923. He also exhibited at the Salon d'Hiver between 1923 to 1937. He died in Paris in 1938.
