Bouquet de Roses

$1,100.00

Fine art painting: French School of the 19th-century oil on canvas signed Dorrée Emile (1883-1959). Large-scale painting.

A still life with a very beautiful depth and a powerful light, distributed in a balanced and uniform way. Emile alternates between large brushstrokes and more calculated movements, giving the composition and its background an elaborate touch, full of perspective and eye-catching.

Émile Dorrée was a French painter born in Paris in 1883. He trained at the Académie Julian and in the painting workshops of various Parisian artists.

He was a member of the Salon des Artistes Français, where he exhibited in 1911. He won a bronze medal for French Artists as well as the Raigecourt-Goyon Prize in 1921 and a silver medal in 1922. He also obtained the French Landscape Award in 1924. After the Second World War, he moved to Cherbourg (Normandy). He opened the Unicorn Workshop where he trained an entire generation of artists and breathed new life into art in the region (including Édith Honorée Henriette Yvonne Faucon). He died in 1959 near Cherbourg.
