Vue Citadine
£493.00
19th-century oil on hardboard, signed (illegible) lower right, presented in an old Barbizon frame in wood and gilded stucco with laurel frieze and acanthus leaf ornamentation.
A village scene, perhaps at the edge of town. A woman in red walks along a wall, possibly beside a river. Beyond her, the red roofs of the village and the church tower are caught in a sudden brightness beneath a storm-laden sky.
In the foreground, a tree with scattered, wind-tossed leaves introduces movement into the composition. The contrast between illuminated architecture and unsettled sky creates quiet tension, balancing stillness and motion within the scene.
