River Colors

20th-century oil on wood panel presented in a molded and gilded cove frame.

A lovely bucolic scene opens up a corner of nature, where tall plants, trees and some floral touches frame a riverbank. But what catches the eye is the tree on the left, painted with striking finesse. In the background, a bright hill completes the composition with a pleasant harmony of almost pastel pinks and blues.

The ensemble evokes spring, with free brushwork and frank colors, close to regional Impressionist sensibilities.

We think the work belongs to the "Crozant" school, an artistic group of the 19th century, who came to capture the landscapes of the Creuse valley. This movement is marked by freedom and constant attention to atmospheric changes. Among the movement's associated figures: Armand Guillaumin, Léon Detroy or Francis Picabia at the start of his career.
