Sourced in the south of France, this coastal landscape is viewed from a road running between the shoreline and a stone embankment. The scene is unmistakably Mediterranean, with the warm light of late afternoon casting long shadows across the road beneath the pine trees.

The brushwork is highly varied throughout the composition. The road is rendered with fine, flat strokes, while the rocky embankment is built up with pronounced impasto, adding texture, substance, and a wonderful sense of movement. This contrast in technique gives the painting both depth and energy while reinforcing the atmosphere of a quiet coastal evening.
