20th-century French School oil painting on wood. The work is smooth to the touch. 

A beautiful muted example of an early 1900's oil on wood, probably painted outside "en plein air." We see two figures sitting on the banks of the river, potentially fishing, with a country house and mountains in the background.

The painting was created using quick brushstrokes, and there are areas that were left unfinished. A truly lovely piece.
