£750.00

An oil on canvas signed in the lower right corner by Maurice Mathurin (1884–1965) and dated 1940. The work shows a square named "14 juillet" (July 14th), the date of the French national holiday.

This calm view shows a typical French square, painted during the war years, probably in a suburb of Paris, bordered by trees and houses. The light is gentle, almost misty, and transmits a sort of stillness. Its Impressionist touch remains discreet but provides depth and warmth to this muted and familiar neighborhood view.

Maurice Mathurin, who was active during the early 1900s, mainly dedicated himself to urban landscapes and village scenes, often marked by a similar style tempered with light and a sense of peaceful composition.
