Un Ciel

20th century oil on hardboard, signed lower left (illegible), presented in a more modern gilt wood frame.

A refined composition where the sky dominates the painting, pushing the horizon line to the very bottom of the frame.

Painted in a cool, lightly rosy palette, the sky asserts itself as a subject in its own right. The clouds are treated in soft glaze, with diffuse contours, creating the impression of suspended air. Certain brighter strokes attract the light, while other areas remain darker, like the sky after the rain.

This manner of dedicating almost the whole painting to the sky recalls the symbolist movement, or more specifically, the works of the Danish painter Vilhelm Hammershøi, especially those with a heavy sky, emotionally charged.

The atmosphere here is calm and introspective, strengthened by a gilded frame, sober yet luminous. A work that invites contemplation, where the sky is more than decorative, rather, a whole world unto itself.
