Antique oil painting from France: This large and gorgeous nude represents a woman taking a nap and was painted by René Deydier, born on October 28, 1882, in Avignon and died July 4, 1942, in the same city.
The artist made several nudes during his career, mainly dark-haired women's dozing on beds. He also painted a series of landscapes on the French Riviera. He cultivated a specific attraction for pastel streets and the play of light and shadow of small Mediterranean towns. He exposed several of his works at the "Salon des Indépendants" in Paris.
  • Overall size: 34.2" x 27.9" / 87.5cm x 71.5cm.
  • Size without the frame: 31.1" x 24.8" / 79cm x 63cm.
  • Provenance: France.
  • Signed: Yes, Deydier.
  • Date: Late 1800's - Early 1900's.
  • Condition: There is a patina effect, created overtime on some dark areas of the painting. There is a small tear on the surface of the canvas, on the bottom of the edge of the chair. Another, smaller, a little above the signature. There is a notch next to the model's shoulder and a group of linear-shaped canvas gaps above. The frame is not original but the golden/red shades spotlight the painting. Small chips on the frame, in the corners, right side. The piece is robust and hasn't lost any charm after the years.
  • Materials: Oil on stretched canvas.
