A lovely antique French landscape painting in a frame from the same era, which perfectly complements the tones and depth of the work.

This painting appears simple from a distance, but reveals an animated scene upon closer inspection. A river with glassy reflections sweeps through the landscape, upon which a couple of tiny figures row a boat. An arched bridge and the red roof of a home are visible in the background. Along the grassy shore of the river, we see many small figures, dotted in colors, lounging and gathering in front of a home or hall. A large poplar tree divides the painting vertically, and the water and breathy sky mirror each other in bands of cool color and light.
