La Messe

$490.00

20th-century French school oil on wood panel attributed to Marcel Bertoin (1897-1983). The work has a little texture to the touch.

An impressionist scene before mass in Brittany. The characters are subtly highlighted by the contrast of the colors in the headdresses of the traditional outfits with that of the stone. In addition to a unique and colorful graphic rendering, there is always a story in the works of Jean-Louis Verdier, like this woman in the foreground who observes and seems to be waiting for something.

About the artist: Marcel Bertoin was a French impressionist painter born in 1897 and who died in 1983. He mostly painted Breton and south of France landscapes. He was dedicated to a colorful palette, round geometry, and a modern approach to impressionism. His highest skill was in his capacity to tell us a story in every scene or landscape he painted.
