Milly la Forêt

20th-century oil painting on carton signed in the lower right by René Besserve (1883-1959) and located in Milly la Forêt in Essonne, near Paris. The work has texture to the touch.

An Impressionist landscape characterized by brushstrokes juxtaposed with palpable emotion and dynamic texture. A French landscape painting showing a rolling landscape with a church tower and village visible in the background. A figure rests alongside the path, dappled in shadows.

About the artist:

René Besserve (1883-1959) was a French painter born in 1883, less than twenty kilometers from Switzerland, in Montbéliard.

He studied art in Paris and exhibited in various Parisian salons. Besserve's preferred subjects were landscapes approached with an Impressionist style, as well as scenes depicting Parisian life. He passed away at the age of 75 in Saint-Mandé, near Paris, in 1959.
