19th-century French School oil on wood painting. The work has a little texture to the touch.
A deep forest landscape created varied and voluminous brushstrokes, against a subdued and silvery sky. The dark palette is reminiscent of the Barbizon School and harmonizes perfectly with the detailed acanthus motifs on the wooden and gilded stucco frame. The landscape itself looks like Fontainebleau south of Paris, home of the Barbizon School.
