Near the Village

20th-century French school painting on wood. The work is signed and has a bit of texture to the touch. Inscribed on the back, "Dubois 1911".

This early 1900's small scale painting is painted in with quick, choppy brushtrokes. The technique creates a "blurry" effect where the village and foliage and field all run together. The sky has great texture, and the pops of pink on the roofs create something joyful. 

The painting itself is antique, however, the frame is contemporary.
