Normand Farm

20th-century French School oil on wood panel signed Cyprien Le Vavasseur (1866-1924) in the lower right and dated 1909 with a Galerie de Marly stamp on the back. The work is smooth to the touch.

View of a farmyard with clean brush strokes and a varnished effect. The brightness of the scene is vivid and distributed realistically. One can feel the artist's attachment to rural life in the color palette and the fine movement of life in the courtyard.

About the artist: Cyprien Louis Pierre Edmond Le Vavasseur was a French landscape painter born in Avranches (Normandy) September 23, 1866. H died in the same town December 31, 1924.

Le Vavasseur began to painting at an early age, as a hobby with his father, and his passion would lead him to Paris and to attending the School of Fine Arts.

Le Vavasseur became a member of the Salon (French artists' fair) and focused primarily on rural scenes and Norman landscapes. The majority of his paintings would be destroyed during the WWII bombings in Normandy in 1944. Several retrospectives of the artist's work have been organized in Normandy.
