Un après-midi

19th century Belgian school oil painting on wooden panel signed with a workshop stamp Albert de Keyser (1829-1890) and located in Antwerp in the lower right. The work is entitled "An Afternoon Around Brussels" on the back. According to a paper note on the back: "Albert de Keyser painted animals and landscapes. This work was presented in the Antwerp Museum in 1875. He was born and died in Antwerp." The work has a little texture to the touch.

A countryside landscape inspired by the Barbizon school features round and compact brushstrokes. The color palette is naturalistic, avoiding excessive use of colors. The light originates from the expansive sky, gradually spreading through the forest clearing and the stream where cows are seen drinking. The large antique sculpted frame adds a sense of imposing elegance to the artwork.
