20th century Italian School oil painting on wood signed Carlos Rossi (1921-2010) in the lower right corner and located on the back in pencil as Varese in Valle Olona. The work has a little texture to the touch.

This artwork offers a post-Impressionist depiction of a river, marked by dense and brief brushstrokes. The texture and gradation of the shore enhance the scene's depth and perspective. Depth is accentuated by a harmonious color palette that remains consistent throughout the composition. Carlos Rossi is renowned for his manipulation of light, evident in the soft gradients and understated reflections. The artwork's allure is amplified by an aged gilded stucco and wooden frame, which subtly elevates the brilliance of the Italian landscape.

About the artist:

Carlos Rossi was a Scottish painter of Italian origin, born on February 13, 1921, in Johnstone, Renfrewshire. He received his training at the Heat Glasgow School of Art and later ventured to Italy to explore his heritage and artistic pursuits. During this time, he developed a profound passion for capturing the landscapes of the country, creating artworks characterized by warm colors and precise natural lighting.

Rossi regularly exhibited his work in galleries across Glasgow and at the Beaux-Arts of Glasgow. Throughout his artistic journey, Carlos Rossi continuously reinvented himself, exploring various artistic currents. However, he drew inspiration from three major masters: Paul Cezanne, Georges Braque, and Picasso.
