The Red Eggs

$1,150.00

20th-century Swiss School oil on canvas, signed "Zinet" for André Zinet (1931-2012) in the lower left corner. On the back, an exhibition label from Maison de l'Art Français in Buenos Aires identifies the still life as "Les Oeufs Rouges" (the Red Eggs). The artwork possesses a textured surface when touched.

This modern composition showcases voluminous yet controlled brushstrokes. The tea towel wrapping the composition gradually loses texture, adding realism and depth while contrasting with the round geometry of the table elements. It also subtly echoes the composition's light with a touch of burgundy color in its lines. The thin minimalist frame harmonizes with the dark, thick lines encompassing the elements of the composition.

About the artist:

André Zinet was born on April 25, 1931, in Geneva, Switzerland. At the age of eighteen, he was admitted to the School of Fine Arts in Geneva, where he explored both figurative and abstract expressive works. Seeking inspiration from the masters of modern art, Zinet moved to Paris in 1955. He exhibited at the Salon des Indépendants and received state commissions for modern still lifes. His remarkable works featured dark colors and fused elements of Impressionism and Cubism.

Returning to Switzerland, Zinet began showcasing his works in local galleries. In 1962, he held his first solo exhibition at the National Gallery in Geneva, which received critical acclaim and captivated the public. Zinet's paintings are known for their bold use of color and emotional sensitivity. In 1978, he was honored with the National Arts Prize by the Swiss government, recognizing his significant contributions to the Swiss art scene. André Zinet passed away on November 12, 2012, in Geneva at the age of 81.
