Mr Rigaud

Original old portrait from Europe: 19th-century Italian School oil on canvas dedicated (in Italian) to a very dear friend, Otavio Rigaud, and signed below (illegible) in the center-left. The canvas is smooth and well-distributed.

A portrait with a beautiful light carried by the brown ochre and fauve background and the dark contrast of the sitter's costume. The sitter's expression is complex and his fine nuances of skin color create real depth. The painter seems to have succeeded in probing the soul of his friend from which a certain sweetness emerges.

A lovely example of the Italian 1800's portraits, emotional and complex in near perfect condition.
