L'Azur de la Côte

Original Vintage French Oil Painting: As an artist, Henri Edouard Bargin (1906-1980) was drawn to the coastal landscapes of the south of France where he found his  favorite subject matter. This fine example of an oil landscape on hardboard is both signed in the lower left and bears a plaque with his name on the frame.

With intense clarity, Bargin transposes the brilliant light of the environment into the stones that make up the buildings along the coast. Working with a generous, but controlled volume of oil, he has presented both a beautiful perspective and realistic forms of the old Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur structures along with boats in the bay. Playing on nuances, reflections and shadows, Bargin captures the discreet richness of one view along the Mediterranean coastline.
