19th-century French School, oil on canvas mounted on panel, this still life draws on the tradition of European Baroque still-life painting. Fruits and vessels are arranged on a table covered with a light-colored cloth, including an open pomegranate and a metal ewer. On the left, a hand and forearm enter the composition, holding a small bowl and introducing a human presence that is both unusual and enigmatic.

The palette is warm and earthy, dominated by browns, ochres, and the deep tones of the background. Chiaroscuro plays an essential role: the light selectively reveals the hand, the fruits, the drapery, and the metallic reflections of the vessels. The paint is handled with fine, even brushwork and a relatively smooth surface, while the fruits are rendered in greater detail, emphasizing their volume and texture.

The hand, extending from a broad red sleeve, gives the scene a narrative dimension and may also suggest a symbolic or religious reading. This is reinforced by the open pomegranate, traditionally associated with abundance and fertility, but also frequently present in Christian iconography. Its red seeds provide one of the most vivid accents within this deliberately restrained composition.

The painting is presented in a beautiful antique giltwood frame with beaded decoration, whose simplicity and warm tones particularly complement the refined aesthetic of the composition.
