Le Tanus

A raw, graphic watercolor on paper depicting a stylized landscape defined by bold charcoal outlines. Rolling hills rise in the distance, their ridged forms cast in shadow, while the foreground bursts with expressive vegetation and vivid color. The artist takes joyful liberties with the palette, with pops of orange, yellow, and blue forming a patchwork that feels both abstract and grounded in place.

Titled “Le Tanus” and dated 1919 in the lower right, the work refers to the rural village of Tanus in the Tarn region of southern France. The ribbons of agricultural fields and vibrant natural textures are clearly echoed in the composition, imbuing the piece with a quiet sense of place and history.
